Meet Derick:

"Who am I?" is an age - old question. Growing up, I would get very confused navigating the many ethnicity-related identities applied to me (or " r escinded" ). First it was "Chinese", "Filipino", and "American" —then "Fil-Chi", a colloquialism combining the first two, that can refer to the more socially and culturally integrated Chinese diaspora in the Philippines. Eventually came "Chinese American" and "Asian American", though frequently these days, it's the catch-all of "Asian".

Having been raised with an appreciation of food, in an environment where food is a love language, it makes sense that it would become a binder for all of these identities. While I still think about that same question today, it's more focused on meaning, and understanding my experiences and myself. It's truly been, and continues to be a higgledy-piggledy journey towards making sense of it all. higgled & piggled channels all this into food.
