Our Latest Financial Transparency Report: Breaking $100,000 back into Chinatown, 10,000+ meals served
Hi all,
We hope everyone had a restful and relaxing Memorial Day weekend! Our volunteer team took a much needed break to recharge, and now we’re back in action with several big initiatives we’re working toward.
First, we’re excited to share that we have now officially put back $100,000 into Chinatown and served 10,000+ meals -- wow!! This is all made possible by YOU. It’s hard to believe that two months ago when we first started, we were hopeful to even break $10,000. The love for Chinatown is palpable. We are a little less than $20,000 from reaching our goal of $150,000, which will help us ensure we can continue these much needed meals to frontline workers through the current duration of NYC PAUSE, while supporting Chinatown businesses who remain impacted by the restaurant dine-in ban. We are excited that we’ve been able to add a few additional Chinatown restaurants who have recently reopened, and it is a hopeful sign seeing more businesses in the neighborhood open their doors again.
Since our last update, we have been able to forge ahead with our other current initiatives, Greens for Good, where we assembled and distributed another week of 140 produce bags to one of the Chinese-American Planning Council’s senior housing communities in Chinatown, through our donation drive with Asian-Veggies.com. We have one more week’s worth of produce to distribute, which will take place in early June, as well as enough funds to help provide produce for 46 Mott Bakery’s free community meals.
We also launched Care for Chinatown, our neighborhood revitalization program, which you can learn more about here.
And lastly, we rolled out our next merchandise collection, featuring Tonii’s Fresh Rice Noodles, which you can learn more about here. As a reminder, 100% of the profit for each participating businesses’ merchandise collection goes directly to the business, and we’re excited to roll out more collaborations throughout the summer. Stay tuned for more!
Here’s a look at how your merchandise purchases have helped give back to participating businesses so far:
Many thanks to those who also joined us for our Atlas Obscura ‘Wonders from Home’ virtual experience featuring 12 Pell, Kam Hing and artist Felicia Liang, as well as to those who bought tickets for Lucky Grandma’s virtual theatrical release. Both virtual experiences include proceeds to Welcome to Chinatown, and we’re grateful for your support of independent Asian and Asian-American artists and business owners!
With thanks from Chinatown,
Vic, Jen and the Welcome to Chinatown team
