About the Fair: Welcome to Chinatown's Lunar New Year Fair is a free weekend fair where visitors can shop, eat, play + celebrate the new year. Inspired by a Tray of Togetherness, our fair will bring together varied and multi-generational elements through diverse vendors, interactive activities, workshops, and art exhibitions- everything that make the Chinatown community so vibrant and beautiful.
About the Open Call: Have you ever wanted to introduce a product, test your marketing appeal, get your feet wet in retail, or share your subject matter expertise with the community? Core to Welcome to Chinatown's mission of uplifting small businesses and entrepreneurs, Welcome to Chinatown is launching an open call for budding entrepreneurs to showcase their work and expertise at our fair. Through the Longevity Fund, selected entrepreneurs will receive grant consisting of a designated area to vend at the fair, furniture rentals, fabricated design assets to spruce up your space, and marketing through Welcome to Chinatown's platform.
Why should I participate? Welcome to Chinatown is encouraging creators and entrepreneurs to take risks while using their resources to uplift and advocate for the Chinatown community. We successfully held 88 East Fair in September 2022 with over 3000 visitors, press coverage from outlets including Time Out New York, and rave reviews from our partner. See the recap here and read our partner testimonials:
“Having SUBLIMA's first store as part of 88 East Fair was such a huge step and boom for my business. I was able to showcase my work in a more immersive setting, and I got to meet not only a ton of new customers very aligned with my brand vision and values, but also community leaders, including fellow business owners, creatives and activists who all share passion for Welcome to Chinatown and the community.” – Kelly Bit, Sublima
“I grew up in Chinatown after my family and I moved to the USA when I was 7, and to see it thrive so much because of the work you've put in, makes me smile. I honestly wish that something like this was available when I was younger, and I know that the whole community is in great hands when Welcome to Chinatown is there to support it. The whole team has lead the community to visibility and created our own space because of the hard work you've all put in.” - Yuhua Hamasaki, Drag Entertainer and Queen, 88 East Fair Attendee
