We’re Hiring: Senior Manager, Communication & Engagement

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Community & Engagement to lead and execute strategies that strengthen Welcome to Chinatown’s community presence and expand awareness of our programming and impact. This role will oversee content strategy across social media, newsletters, and digital platforms while managing press media, influencer, and creator partnerships.

The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller and communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and can balance strategy with hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Community & Audience Engagement

  • Develop strategies to grow and engage Welcome to Chinatown’s community of volunteers, small businesses, partners, and supporters

  • Lead outreach efforts to small businesses and partner organizations to expand participation in Welcome to Chinatown programming

Content & Digital Channels

  • Develop and manage content strategy across social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Facebook

  • Oversee the content calendar, coordinating contributors and managing approvals

  • Manage blog content and website updates to support organizational storytelling

Editorial & Communications

  • Lead end-to-end strategy and execution of Welcome to Chinatown’s email newsletters, including editorial planning, content development, distribution, and analytics

  • Develop editorial strategy that highlights programming, events, and stories from the small business community

  • Write and edit communications across channels, including program announcements, campaigns, and event promotion

Media, Influencer & Creator Partnerships

  • Manage press outreach and media relations for Welcome to Chinatown as an organization, including special initiatives and events

  • Build relationships with influencers, creators, and media partners

  • Oversee collaborations with Welcome to Chinatown’s creator network and support the development of editorial and social content

Collaboration & Operations

  • Improve the communications technology stack and support cross-department coordination for marketing and communications projects

  • Partner with the Head of Creative to develop templates, visual assets, and brand-aligned design materials

  • Collaborate with leadership and internal teams to align messaging and drive proactive thought leadership, translating internal perspectives into clear, cohesive external communications on community relevant issues

Qualifications:

  • 7–10 years of experience in community engagement, communications, marketing, or related fields

  • Strong copywriting and editing skills across multiple formats

  • Experience managing social media strategy, newsletters, and digital content channels

  • Familiarity with press outreach, influencer partnerships, or creator collaborations

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with experience coordinating multiple contributors or stakeholders

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred experience in early-stage (<5 years) startups

  • Familiarity with alternative platforms (e.g., Discord, Substack, Fediverse, Beehiiv)

  • Ability to identify and engage in relevant cultural and industry moments, particularly within AAPI communities, small business ecosystems, and Chinatown

  • Cross-functional experience across communications, including content, editorial, and PR

Details:

  • Salary: 75k - 85k

  • Reports to: CEO/Executive Director

Welcome to Chinatown serves as a free voice to generate much needed momentum for one of New York City's most vibrant neighborhoods, and offers resources to launch a new revenue stream during this unprecedented time.
