3 Years of Impact for Welcome to Chinatown

Three years ago, our founders started Welcome to Chinatown as a response to the disparate effects of Covid-19 on Chinatown. But did you know that WtC started as a failed attempt to onboard local businesses onto a gift card platform?

Our founders Vic and Jen quickly realized that in order to support and uplift the community, there would be no quick fix – and more importantly, it takes time, people and effort to build trust. These early lessons are pivotal to how are work has grown and evolved today.

Not only are we humbled by the trust placed in us by business owners and community members, we’re indebted to the countless volunteers and partners who have given the priceless gift of time – time spent getting to know the people and stories of Chinatown small businesses. And of course, our work does not exist with all of you supporters, champions and donors.

Because of your support, we’ve accomplished so much in 3 years…

3 years later, as our work shifts beyond just covid-relief towards long term sustainability, our values and mission remain. We’re so excited to launch our Small Business Innovation Hub – a place where the work listed above can continue, but also where we can continue building community and ensure a future where Chinatown doesn’t just survive, it thrives. We hope you’ll consider contributing to our birthday fundraiser on Numarket.

Welcome to Chinatown

Welcome to Chinatown is a grassroots initiative to support Chinatown businesses following the rapid decline in business as a result of COVID-19 and increased xenophobia. Welcome to Chinatown serves as a free voice to generate much needed momentum for one of New York City's most vibrant neighborhoods, and offers resources to launch a new revenue stream during this unprecedented time.
