Join us for a special (清明節) Tomb Sweeping Workshop, where we’ll dive into the traditions of ancestor veneration—what it means, how it’s practiced, and its deep cultural significance.

Hands-On Workshop: Altar-Making + Joss Paper Folding

Collective Altar: Everyone is invited to contribute to the collective altar. (All items will be returned at the end of the event.) You are invited to bring food, flowers, pictures, etc to honor your loved ones.

Group Joss Paper Burning: Closing the event everyone will have a hand to burn the joss paper

Our community partner panelists will introduce you to the background of this holiday and the significant it has to Chinese culture and community. They will also share how they personally practice with their family, and perspectives on you can celebrate/observe if you are interested.

Whether you’re looking to reconnect with your roots or learn something new, this is a space to reflect, remember, and honor those who came before us.

Alice Liu is a second-generation co-owner Grand Tea & Imports, a multi-generational family business in Manhattan’s Chinatown that offers high quality Chinese teas and cultural goods. Alice is also an active community organizer; advocating for the preservation of Chinese culture.

Jenny Liao: An author of With You In Spirit, A featured children’s book story about a young child who reconnects with her late grandfather on Qing Ming, a holiday honoring family members who are no longer with us, celebrated in Chinese communities around the world.
