Feeding 1,000 Crisis Nurses Stationed In NYC
From the onset, Welcome to Chinatown’s mission has always been to help Chinatown businesses during these uncertain times while also comforting brave frontline workers with something as simple as a hot meal. That’s why we’re proud to feed 1,000 nurses and healthcare workers who’ve traveled all across the U.S. to New York City to help fight the pandemic.
These crisis travel nurses have been a lifeline to NYC’s overwhelmed healthcare system, with most of them stationed here for two weeks or more already. That’s why as a thank you to these courageous workers, we delivered 1,000 meals to them on Friday, May 8 — thanks to your generous donations — prepared by 12 participating Chinatown food establishments.
We set an ambitious goal of raising $10,000 in five days to fund the initiative, with all donations going back to Chinatown restaurants to purchase those meals, and you helped us reach this goal in just THREE days since the start of our campaign sprint. We can’t thank you enough! For our visiting frontline workers, these meals were a welcome respite from the standard fare they’ve been relying on lately. “We are craving ANY kind of ethnic food you can find us, we’re so tired of pizza,” explained one nurse.
HOW YOU CAN CONTINUE TO HELP: Donate to our ongoing “Help Chinatown Help Our Heroes” fundraiser to keep feeding our frontline heroes while the restaurant dine-in bans are still in effect. Even if you can’t donate right now, we’d love if you could spread the word.
Thank you for your ongoing support to these frontline workers while helping Chinatown along the way!
