Celebrating Lunar New Year With Chinatown Lion Dances

We partnered with our friends at New York Athletic Club Freemasons Club to bring Lion Dances to celebrate and welcome the Year of the Tiger! One of the most iconic sights of Chinese New Year is the traditional Lion Dance that brings good fortune and wealth.

At Kopitiam

On Saturday, February 5, starting at Dreamers Coffee House (54W Henry Street) and then following a route to Kopitiam (151 E Broadway) and Golden Diner (123 Madison Street), there was an incredible crowd turned parade of over 300 people watching the dances! We were so excited to see faces of both the community and supporters come out and generate new business and interest in these gathering places.

“We saw a great deal of foot traffic and social media interest from the Lion Dances, we are so thankful for the opportunity!” -Kyo, Kopitiam

On Friday, February 11, the lion dances started at Jing Fong (202 Centre Street) and then to Pasteur Grill & Noodles (85 Baxter Street) and Uncle Lou (73 Mulberry Street). We saw an increased interest from the street of passerbys gathering for dinner as well as table reservations specifically for the Lion Dances. We couldn’t be happier for the spectacle!

Thank you and WTC for organizing the Lion Dance earlier this month to give Uncle Lou the grand opening celebration that it never had! It was heartwarming to see the community embrace us like that!" - Louis Wong

Our goal for this event was to bring a piece of Lunar New Year that is usually not advertised to the public and give an opportunity to see one of our favorite parts of Lunar New Year. By bringing this to the businesses, we had an opportunity to drive business and social media interest for lasting impact seeing well over 500 attendees across both weekends. We can’t wait to do this again!
