Behind the Scenes: Made in Chinatown x Hop Lee
How did we create our latest Made in Chinatown Spring collection? Check out the inspiration behind Harry Trinh’s Hop Lee design.
The light-pink color choice was inspired by Hop Lee's pink-accented interior. This warm aura was prominent in Chinese restaurants in the 1980s, at the height of Hong Kong's globalization and economic growth. As a result, the style was brought overseas to Chinese-American restaurants to create a warm dining experience.
In the Chinese community, love is expressed through food. Harry incorporated "Love Chinatown" (愛華埠) into the vintage Hop Lee receipt design, printed on the chest. The sleeve sports a rose that comes from the restaurant's rose-printed napkins, and a fortune reminding you to keep supporting Chinatown restaurants.
Lastly, the mug reflects Hop Lee's bright neon signage.
Profits from the collection will go to Hop Lee, so secure your crewneck and mug on madeinchinatownny.com. Limited quantities available!
