Failing Forward: A Panel + Chat

  • Based-In 49-51 Elizabeth Street (4th Fl) New York, NY, 10013 United States (map)

Let's get candid about failure!

Most of us have been there (and some of us are deep in it now), but too often we're afraid to get real honest about it. Let's change that because spoiler alert, failure is not a bad thing and often leads to profound growth.

Join us for an interactive chat on 7/10 6PM at Based In (49-51 Elizabeth St). We’ll chat about facing setbacks, knowing when it's time to move on, and making it all a positive part of our journey.

Light refreshments will be provided by JUMO Soju Cocktail.

Space is limited so please RSVP below! The panel will be followed by an open networking hour, where light refreshments will be served.

Wen-Jay Ying is the founder and boss at Local Roots NYC, a small business that has connected New Yorkers with farm ingredients that are hyper local and beyond organic since 2011 through weekly subscription-based farmers markets at bars and cafes. In 2021, the Local Roots Market+Cafe opened, serving Chinese farm-to-table homestyle dishes and in 2023 they opened a bubble tea kiosk in the new Pier 57 James Beard curated food hall in Chelsea.

Ying’s entrepreneurial spirit comes from her years in the d.i.y music scene playing in multiple bands. Former Mayor Bloomberg awarded her Entrepreneur of the Year award for her positive impact on NYC. She is the tv host of This Organic Life on Hudsy TV and has spoken at City Hall and the United Nations about local food systems, Hunter College, Food Forever conference, Heritage Radio, Cherry Bombe and Sirius Radio, to name a few, and was a guest instructor at the International Culinary Center. Her entrepreneurial journey can be seen on Viceland’s show Hustle. When she’s not cooking or visiting farms, Wen-Jay is rock climbing, dancing or traveling. Ask her how a conversation with the lead singer of the Flaming Lips inspired her to start Local Roots NYC.
